"Domaine Gerovassiliou Chardonnay Epanomi is quite simply one of the best Chardonnays made outside Burdundy. Barrel fermented in new French oak and aged on its lees to add complexity and freshness, the wine shows complex peach and pear aromas, with a creamy, rich mouthfeel and a hint of smoke on its long finish."
Susan visited Domaine Gerovassiliou in 2012 as part of a winery tour of Greece, she was hugely impressed by the quality of wines being produced there and we are delighted to list this excellent Chardonnay from a vineyard established in 1983.
Domaine Gerovassiliou is the brainchild of Vangelis Gerovassiliou. In 1981, he started reviving the family vineyard that spreads over 2,5 hectares at Papamola region in Epanomi, approximately 25km to the south-east of the city of Thessaloniki. In this unique ecosystem he planted mainly Greek, but also foreign grape varieties. The first vinification took place in 1986 at the modern winery that was built by the vineyard. All Domaine wines are produced from grapes cultivated in the private vineyard, now stretching over 80 hectares.
