"A classic Malbec, giving the ripeness and concentration typical of the variety married with the gentle, smooth texture gained from several years bottle age. This wine is to be enjoyed straight away and really is excellent value from an esteemed producer. Aidan Bell"
Bodegas Salentein is a leading producer in Argentina, led by head-winemaker José Galente who was instrumental in the success of Catena. Salentein's vineyards rise to 1700 meters above sea level, making them some of the highest vineyards in the world. The long days, clear air and cooling influence of the Andes help create wines of smooth, complex and elegant character.
Their Portillo range takes it name from the historic mountain pass that connects the Andes with the Uco Valley. Produced from fruit grown on different vineyard plots at Finca el Oasis planted in 2006, located between 1,100 and 1,150 meters on shallow, stony, free draining soil. Following harvest the grapes pass directly into tanks where they undergo cold maceration. Then, alcoholic fermentation begins, during which pumping over is carried out, once this is completed the wine is moved to the cellar where malolactic fermentation takes place, prior to bottling.
