2023 Ch le Pin Sacriste, Sainte Croix du Mont

Vineyard Information

Produced by Michel Meric et Fils from the property in the appellation of Sainte Croix du Mont. Located about forty kilometers south of Bordeaux, on the opposite bank of the river from Sauternes. A picturesque site for the production of great sweet white wines overlook the right bank of the Garonne River from a height of over one hundred meters. The entire commune covers 850 hectares, 450 of which are vineyards. The village of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont is built on a plateau formed of immense beds of fossilized oysters.

This wine is a blend of Sémillon (80%), Sauvignon (15%) and Muscadelle (5%) harvested from 30-40 year old vines. This wine has a golden colour and a characteristic nose which combines notes of exotic fruits, wax, toast and spices. On the palate it well balanced, with a smooth texture and classic “botrytis” notes, displaying a good balance of acidity and fruit sweetness retaining its sucrosité without being cloying.

The grape varieties cultivated are primarily Sémillon (85%), widely grown for its ability to develop "noble rot", This is complemented by Sauvignon Blanc (12%), with its intense aroma, and Muscadelle (3%), which contributes a light muscat scent and gives the wine its bouquet.

The harvest begins in late September or early October, when the perfectly ripened grapes are at their peak concentration and lasts from 5 to 9 weeks. Because Botrytis develops unevenly, the rot progresses at varying speeds and in different locations, resulting in a fragmented harvest through successive passes. Harvesters make several passes (4 to 8 successive passes), meticulously picking the overripe grapes each time. Those that have not yet reached the desired concentration will be harvested during subsequent passes.
