""Lovely balance, great colour, this claret really expands on the palate, it’s elegant and not forced, lovely quality tannins, strong but not drying, a very accessible style for current drinking. Shows best if decanted – a little gem” Aidan Bell"
Located on the right bank of the Gironde, heading towards St Emilion, the Cotes de Bourg appellation is higher and hillier than Medoc across the water. Soils are a variable mixture of sand, clay and gravel, leaning towards the Merlot grape. Ch Tour de Tourteau has been a family estate since 1835, and is now run by Didier Chagnaud and situated in the picturesque village of Samonac, which perches atop a rocky hill just 3km from the river.
Containing 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec, this super value Claret has an alluringly deep purple colour and intense red & black fruit flavours. The Merlot gives a lovely mid-palate weight, whilst the Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec provide excellent structure and mouth-watering length, all in all a thoroughly delicious wine.
