2020 Ch La Tour de By, Cru Bourgeois Superieur, Médoc

Tasting Notes

"Aidan Bell, DBM Wines
Tour de By has an excellent track record of maturing beautifully in the cellar. Their wines always seem to have a lovely purity and transparency. Deep colour, nicely lifted aromatic nose, ripe red and black fruit, lovely build on the finish - proper Medoc grip - vg length, denisty and purity.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 89-91
The 2020 La Tour de By is an exuberant, bold wine. Persistent tannins give it a good deal of energy, but also some rougher contours that need time to soften. Blueberry, blackberry, lavender and dried herbs linger long on the persistent finish. It will be interesting to see how this comes together. Drink 2025-2035

Neal Martin 88-90/100
The 2020 La Tour de By has a well-defined, earthy, almost ferrous bouquet of crisp blackberry, wild hedgerow and briar scents. The palate is medium-bodied and quite structured, with dry tannins on the entry and broody black fruit laced with licorice and tobacco toward the finish. Hopefully it will develop a little more length by the time of bottling. Drink 2025-2028

Vineyard Information

Chateau La Tour-de-By is a 74 hectare property overlooking the Gironde at Begadan planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The wines are very robust with classic earthy Medoc fruit and can age quite happily for 10-12 years if cellared correctly.

Chateau La Tour de By is one of the oldest properties in the Médoc, founded in 1599, when it was known as La Roque de By.  The current picturesque chateau was constructed in 1876 and is famous for the beautiful tower, once a lighthouse, that stands in the vineyards near the chateau. The stunning vineyards directly overlook the Gironde estuary and lie on the gravelly banks adjacent to the river and the Cailloux (pebbles), provide excellent drainage.
