The winery was founded in 1890 by the Banker Carl Gunderloch, and is still cultivated by his heirs. Riesling is the focus of the estate, grown on the 250 million year old 'Red slate' soils from Permian times on the steep slopes aside the Rhine. The Hasselbach family cultivate 24ha of vineyards restricting yields to approximately 50hl per ha to ensure intense flavours.
