Maurice Drouhin was for many years the Administrator of the Hospices de Beaune, then Vice-President of the institution from 1941 to 1955. In parallel, he directed the family negociant Joseph Drouhin. During WWII the Hospice hid Maurice from the Gestapo and in recognition of the risk they took in saving his life he donated a series of high quality vineyards to them in 1947. The gift amounted to 2.69 hectares, 40% Les Avaux 1er Cru, 25% Les Champs Pimont 1er Cru, 25% Les Boucherottes 1er cru and 10 % Les Grèves 1er Cru. The 2017 vintage marks the 70th anniversary of Maurice’s donation to the Hospice and a limited edition of Magnums has been released to mark the occasion.
