"2018 was a spectacular vintage in the Loire Valley. Growers reported grapes with intense aromatics and concentration, yet plenty of minerality and crisp acidity. Even better, the yields were very good, a huge relief after the tiny 2017 harvest. One famous character in Sancerre has been quoted as saying “this is a mythical vintage, 1947 but with quantity!”
"Intense nose, tight yet bursting with citrus and hints of white flower. The palate has an extraordinary ripeness – almost leading to some spicy, exotic fruit notes – and impressive structure. Lovely balance and poise with energy and mineral vivacity. Very good length of flavour.""
Crochet is a well-known name in Sancerre, with many branches of the family producing wines under different labels. Jean-Marc and his son Mathieu have been working together since 2007 and we are particularly keen on the precision and finesse they achieve in their wines. Their cellars are in Bué, a charming "Sancerrois" village surrounded by vineyards on hills forming a natural amphitheatre. Their vineyards are mainly on the higher hillsides where there is clay mixed with the limestone which Jean-Marc is convinced brings an extra complexity of spices to the intense mineral character.
The Sauvignon Blanc that is grown here is famous for precision, elegance and intensity. Everything is handpicked and carefully selected, both in the vineyard and again at the winery which is equipped with the latest technology and temperature controlled vats.
