2008 Ch du Courlat, Cuvée Jean-Baptiste, Lussac St Emilion

Tasting Notes

"The St-Emilion village of Lussac is an ‘under-the-radar’ Bordeaux treasure hunter’s paradise, the best (and this is one of them) have the power of their prestigious Grand Cru neighbours without the hefty price tag.

Château Du Courlat encompasses 20 hectares on the famous clay-limestone terroir of Saint Emilion. The Cuvee Jean Baptiste is made from the oldest parcel of Merlot with vines up to 100 years old and is matured in new oak barrels for added richness and depth.

"A deep garnet in colour with a ripe plum, cherry, savoury, meaty nose over a palate of crushed plums, forest fruits, loamy cedar and dark chocolate plus a waft of truffles. Medium to full-bodied with lovely length – plenty of wine for the price! This is already ‘a point’, but will continue to evolve beautifully for another 5 years. Try it with grilled rib-eye steak or serve with a plump partridge. Superb!"

Lively translucent garnet colour, the nose is beautifully savoury with lovely freshness and energy. The palate has super intensity with freshness and beautifully integrated tannins. Delicious current drinking.
