The 2023 Roero is a terrific entry-level offering from Correggia. Sweet red cherry, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and dried herbs open first. It offers gorgeous mid-palate pliancy and fine balance, both especially of note given the challenges of the growing season. Quite simply, this is reference-point Nebbiolo from Roero.

Matteo Correggia was one of the leaders of the young generation that brought so much attention to Piedmont in the late 1980s. Sadly, a tractor accident in 2001 cut his life tragically short, leaving behind a wife and two young children. I visited the estate a few times in the years that followed. Correggia’s widow, Ornella, did a tremendous job in keeping the estate running while also advancing approaches to sustainable viticulture and raising her children. Giovanni Correggia was just a young boy at the time. Today, he is a young man who has confidently taken charge of his family’s domaine. The wines continue to improve, always heading in a direction of greater focus and energy. This is an estate to watch, as the best is yet to come -Antonio Galloni, Vinous 2025
