2019 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spatlese, Fritz Haag, Mosel

Tasting Notes

"94-95 Points - Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
The 2019 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spätlese opens with an intense, concentrated, flinty and aromatic bouquet of ripe citrus and tropical fruits intermixed with floral notes of broken slate. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is a concentrated and aromatic Spätlese whose sweetness is perfectly balanced by the firm and grippy mineral structure and vibrant acidity. Very promising. Tasted as a sample in April 2020. Drink Date: 2020 - 2050

Vintage Description

Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
Oliver Haag considers 2019 to be another "exceptional" vintage after 2018. It was "to be expected" that it would be about 20% smaller in volume than the very generous previous year, as well as the "early autumn." He describes the wines of what I consider to be an outstanding vintage as "dense, powerful, juicy, precise and tensioned but also full of finesse."

In 2019, Oliver Haag has succeeded again in producing an outstanding series of Rieslings, which includes the estate wine with concentration and length that is spectacular in this price range. After all, the grapes come exclusively from steep slopes, premier crus if you like, which are more in the side valleys, are inclined to the south and benefit from the cooling down wind like the Sonnenlay with its fine slate soil. The low yield in 2019 and the mostly old vines provide undreamt-of density and complexity here. It is a "Wine of the Year" for me and can hardly be surpassed in its price range.
