♥ Outstanding
Note: this is actually a blend of En Songes and Les Geuelepines that most people would not know isn't exclusively from En Songes given the very close similarity of the names; vinified with 60% whole clusters.
A brooding and less expressive nose combines notes of poached plum and moderate amounts of wood toast with those of humus-inflected warm earth and forest floor. There is excellent verve and similarly good delineation to the medium-bodied flavors that are once again super-saline in character while offering even better persistence. Recommended provided you have the patience to allow it at least a few years of cellaring first as it's pretty tightly wound today. Drink: 2027+ Tasted: Jan 10, 2021"

Simon Mazzini was proud to tell me that the domaine was certified as organic for the 2019 vintage. He described the 2019 growing season as one that "wasn't too difficult to manage though there were periods that made us nervous. For example, we narrowly avoided serious frost damage in April, which then disrupted the flowering as we had quite a bit of shatter. While there was no disease pressure of note, there was some hydric stress so we were worried if the vines could properly ripen the fruit. As it turns out, we needn't have worried, but you just never know as we did have some sunburned fruit losses. In the end, yields came in between 35 and 40 hl/ha though it was quite variable. Aside from the Bourgogne, we used between 50 and 100% whole clusters for the vinifications, which passed without any problems. Overall, 2019 is a really good vintage and one that we're excited about." I can see why Mazzini is excited about the domaine's 2019s as they are excellent and perhaps the best wines they have made since they started.
