"92 Points - Neal Martin, vinous.com
The 2012 Climens was tasted from two bottles, the first weirdly green. The second was an absolute joy. Well-defined on the nose, it offers lovely beeswax, honeysuckle, jasmine and yellow flowers. The palate is very pure with fine weight, quite tangy, lightly spiced with a pretty marmalade-tinged finish. A very commendable Sauternes in context of the season, but not a top-tier Climens. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Drinking Window 2022 - 2045, Reviewed February 2022"
Located at the top of the Barsac Appellation, the terroir of Château Climens forms an unequalled entity. Its red topsoil resting on a fissured limestone platform provides a perfect natural drainage. This is a unique terroir which fosters the early development of Botrytis and where Semillion - its favourite variety - finds a truly wonderful expression. Such innate class has gained Climens the title of 'Lord of Barsac' as well as the rank of first growth in the 1855 Classification. In 1971, Lucien Lurton was seduced by the wines’ fineness and bought the estate. The outstanding personality of Climens has also charmed his daughter Bérénice and since 1992, when she took charge of Climens, she has vowed to perpetuate the growth’s magic and its reputation for brightness and elegance. ©ugcb
