"Jancis Robisnon 19/20; Lively mid ruby with a pale rosy rim. Much more concentrated and vigorous than the 1955 tasted immediately beforehand. Even a little briary. Firm. Very neat and lifted on the palate with that great roundness of the 1966 and just a hint of tannic structure. Hint of woodsmoke – or is that the open fire in the grate next door? Spirit well incorporated. Still lots of life ahead of it. Very gentle. Tasted Dec 2103
Wineanorak 93/100; Warm, complex nose with a hint of herb and medicine, as well as some floral notes. Soft, mellow palate with liquorice and old furniture. Beautifully complex: warm, soft and intense. (Tasted 2009)

Quinta do Noval is situated in the heart of the Douro, with vineyards in the valleys of both the Pinhão and the Roncão, tributaries of the Douro river. Great wines have been produced here since 1715 when the vineyard was first mentioned in the land registries, but Noval’s name was made with the 1931 declaration, which established the reputation of both the Quinta do Noval and the Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Ports. Quinta do Noval Vinhos is unusual among traditional shippers in being based in the Douro, and also in that its two greatest Ports, Quinta do Noval and Quinta do Noval Nacional, are always Single Quinta wines.
