The 2005 Cuvée Viva is in a gorgeous spot right now. Sweet floral and spice notes lift from the glass as this charming, mid-weight Blaye shows off its alluring personality. Ripe red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, leather and dried flowers open over time. I don't see much upside in cellaring bottles further, but the 2005 has certainly reached this stage of its life in style. Drinking Window 2021 – 2025"
Chateau Gigault is a long established property that was reinvigorated in 1998 following its purchase by Christophe Reboul Salze a successful Bordeaux negociant. He added the suffix ‘Cuvee Viva’ to the estates Grand Cuvée in memory of his late daughter who tragically died in an accident in the same year that he purchased the Chateau.
The 17 ha of vineyards are in a commanding position at a high point in Blaye, they are planted in one block with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. From the outset Christophe retained Stephane Derenoncourt as his consultant and the resulting wines are both plush and generous.
A famous right bank vintage in Bordeaux delivering full ripe wines with great balance.
