"Light pale-yellow colour. Very nice expression of ripe fruits on the nose, tending towards bergamot, citrus fruits, vine peach. Medium intensity but precise and clean. We can really feel the character of the vintage through a successful physiological maturity on a delicate and elegant harmony, with an aromatic display of ripe fruits. Enveloping mouth, velvety with a caressing ripe acidity, discreet on the attack but showing well on the palate. This wine remains on a very fine and elegant texture, on the finish it reveals a light structure which supports the dry balance of this wine well."
Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is a winery located in Turckheim, Alsace, France. The domaine was created in 1959, following the marriage of Léonard Humbrecht to Geneviève Zind. The Humbrecht family has a history of winegrowing since 1620. The domaine is currently mostly managed by Léonard's son Olivier Humbrecht, who was the first Frenchman to qualify as Master of Wine.
In 2023, given the small harvest of Riesling in the Herrenweg area of Turckheim, mainly affected by coulure during flowering, then a very dry episode in summer, we were forced to blend our Riesling Turckheim with our Roche Roulée cuvée to produce only one wine. The average age of the vines is therefore much higher than 36 years if a precise calculation were made.
The gravelly soils of Turckheim, unlike the limestone or granite hills, would have benefited from more rainfalls through the summer. Despite a good and fertile budbreak, the small size of the berries is responsible for a significant loss of harvest on this cuvée, but also largely explains the ripe aromatic potential of this vintage as harvest was delayed later than initially expected. A good health and a successful maturity will have allowed a fairly rapid fermentation to result in a very easily dry wine.
