"This is an absolute gem from one of our Bordeaux suppliers. The 2003 vintage remains a bit of an oddity in Bordeaux - it was such a hot vintage that many vines simply couldn't ripen properly and others, picked too late, lost acidity. So to find such a beautifully balanced wine with fabulous silky fruit and mouthwatering acidity is akin to finding the holy grail. We think they may have added a splash of 2004 vintage to the wine when blending ( this is entirely legal up to 10% ), which would explain the lovely balance between the fresh energy and the gorgeous plump fruit."
Located St-Aubin-de-Blaye, in the heart of the Premieres Cotes de Blaye AOC on the right bank of the Gironde, Chateau Le Grand Moulin has a history going back to 1904. The vineyards cover rocky slopes and are planted to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cab. Franc. The 2003 is a delicious mature claret with smooth mellow fruit and fine tannins perfect for current drinking and a steal at less than £10 a bottle.
