Split cedar and pine give way to dusty rose and dried black cherries as the darkly alluring 2021 Rosso di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. Its plush textures and ripe dark red fruits flaunt their southern Montalcino terroir as brisk acidity and mineral tones maintain a lovely balance. The 2021 finishes lightly structured yet still energetic, enlivened by a lingering spiced citrus note. Short-term cellaring is recommended. Drinking Window 2025 - 2031 - Reviewed Oct 2022"

Gianni Brunelli was born in Montalcino, yet moved with his mother to Siena. It was here that he met his wife Laura and was also able to follow his dream of becoming a restaurateur, opening the successful Osteria Le Logge. Over time he found himself looking back to Montalcino, and at the Le Chiuse di Sotto vineyard, which his father had once owned and planted in 1947. It was from this northern corner of Montalcino that the brand Gianni Brunelli Brunello was born, recognizable for their traditional style, pleasing nature, and attractive rusticity. As Gianni expanded his holdings throughout Montalcino, the wines benefited from the diversity of climates from north to south and east to west. Unfortunately, Gianni passed away in 2008, yet his wife Laura didn’t miss a beat, as she quickly assumed control of the winery. Today, the wines of Gianni Brunelli are just as good as they were when made by Gianni himself. The winery continues to be focused on family, and the importance of producing hand-taylored wines that speak of Montalcino and Sangiovese above all else.
