Marcarini offer some of the best value Barolo in the whole of Piedmont. This is a very traditional estate producing wines that benefit hugely from ageing. Aidan recently enjoyed La Serra and Brunate 1996 vintage from magnum and has had brilliant bottles going back as far as 1982 and 1970. Manuel Marchetti, husband to Luisa Marcarini has enthusiastically taken on the challenge of developing this prestigious and historic estate. Each vintage has been a learning experience, and Manuel (as with all vignerons to some degree) has had to learn on the job, but the wine is brilliant year on year, and the name is still well-known and well-regarded in the region and always represents excellent value. These wines need to be decanted a good few hours in advance.
