"Tasting note from winemaker, Ana Quintela
Straw yellow with greenish glimmer, lively, bright, and very glyceric. High intensity and very expressive, with a profusion of tertiary aromas from the aging process; elegant notes of kerosene, graphite, and minerals originating from the granitic rock terroir. This combines with primary aromas of baked apple, mango, and quince, with soft hints of rose petals and dried apricots. Stone fruit. Good harmony. Time in the glass makes the wine more expressive, highlighting the significance of the varietal, with tones of fresh fruit. Excellent evolution in the glass that increases the wine’s complexity. Denoting immense volume, unctuousness, and very ripe fruit. Velvety in texture. This strong personality is maintained from beginning to end, accompanied by a well-balanced acidity that gives it a perfect symbiosis of fruit and aging. The finish is balsamic, with a predominantly citrus and fine toasted aftertaste. Rich in nuances. A wine with great fortitude. Ready to drink now but will continue to evolve beautifully for 10-15 years."
It’s hard to believe Pazo de Señorans have been making wine for a mere 28 years. Owned by the husband and wife team Soledad Bueno and Javier Mareque, they have become the leading producer of Albariño in Rias Baixas and are widely recognised as one of Spain’s finest producers. They have won international acclaim for their mineral-driven Albariños from their vineyards close to the Atlantic and for the fantastic ageing potential of these wines.
Selección de Añada continues to be the most celebrated white wine of Rias Baixas, if not all of Spain, demonstrating extraordinary quality, specifically from the area of Salnés. A wine whose release is eagerly anticipated each year and popularity only intensifies with the confidence of Pazo Señorans and global demand for Albariño at an all-time high. In December, Pazo Señorans entered Tim Atkin’s hall of fame with founder, Marisol Bueno, receiving his Winemaking Legend award – “Marisol Bueno runs Pazo de Señorans with her daughter Vicky and was the first ever President of the Denominación de Origen (Rías Baixas). Marisol is rightly referred to as “La Dama del Albariño”. Women all over Spain, not just in Rías Baixas, owe her a debt of gratitude.”
2015 vintage
This vintage delivered near ideal growing conditions throughout the vegetative cycle. Mild temperatures and no rain during spring ensured that flowering and fruit set were completed without pressures of disease. June and July were hot and dry months, while August and September were somewhat milder and cooler, marking a good harvest date. The grapes were very healthy. The 2015 is yet to be scored but we expect to see scores coming out in the next couple of months. Given the hype of the vintage and the recent history of astonishing scores for this wine we expect that this vintage will yet again be recognised as one of, if not the highest scoring white wines in Spain. Journalist regularly score this wine between 98-100 points
Pazo Señorans is one of the most iconic and respected wine producers in Spain, renowned for their exceptional Albariño wines from the Rias Baixas DO in Galicia. This Estate has played a central role in elevating Albariño to the level of world-class white wines. Selección de Añada is the Estate’s pinnacle wine. Since its first release of the 1995 vintage, it has become a reference point for anyone wanting to understand the true potential of Albariño beyond its typical youthful, fruit-driven style. Aged on lees for up to 3 years in small stainless-steel tanks with further 6-7 years age in bottle before release, it offers remarkable complexity, aging potential and finesse. Produced from a 4ha single vineyard in the grounds of the winery with beautiful pergola vines averaging over 45 years of age in the Los Bancales area of the Salnés Valley.
