Another impressive performance from this estate, the 2022 Laroque offers up aromas of sweet berries, violets, iris and exotic spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered palate with a rich core of fruit that's framed by lively acids, concluding with a taut, chalky finish. Once again, it's the result of a strict selection that sees only 45% of the production released as the grand vin."
Chateau Laroque has a fine Chateau at its heart constructed in the 17th century by Marquis de Rochefort-Lavie. The property owns 61 ha (the largest vineyard in St Emilion) planted with 87% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, on clay/ limestone soils to northeast of Saint Emilion in St. Christophe des Bardes. However, the vineyard is split between 40 hectares that are classified as Grand Cru Classé and 21 hectares as Grand Cru. The best 27 hectares have old vines situated close to Troplong Mondot.
Since 2015 the wines have been made by David Suire who formerly worked with Nicolas Thienpont and Stephane Derenoncourt, and quality has taken a huge leap forward.
