2019 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, San Polino

Tasting Notes

"96/100 James Suckling
Intense aromas of black cherries, black truffle, orange peel and Indian spices. The palate is full yet reserved, with very fine tannins that fly linear and deep in the wine. Caressing texture. Reserved at the end. A real beauty. From organically grown grapes. Drink after 2027

93/100 Michaela Morris, Decanter.com
From San Polino’s holdings in the northeast on loamy clay soil. Exuberantly youthful and becoming, the 2019 rings out with violet and oily balsamic herbs. It gives a midweight impression – yet is packed with brambly fruit. An orange peel flourish is heightened by zesty acidity. And as this opens, savoury iron depths are revealed. Promising but needs to come together. Solid, clayey tannins clamp down on the finish.

Vineyard Information

Richard visited this renowned estate in the summer of 2019 and was extremely impressed by the rich, powerful wines. Luigi Fabbro and Katia Nuassbaum founded San Polino 30 years ago, and have long been advocates of Organic and biodynamic practices, he drive and energy they exude gives just a hint of the connection they have with the land and soil and the determination to make the most authentic wines possible from their tiny 4 hectare estate.

The vineyards are to the north-east of Montalcino at 300m altitude. Worked by hand, organically and biodynamically, the canopy is well-managed to produce healthy, juicy, thick-skinned grapes
