"Great colour, pretty, soft and floral. Lovely supple texture, really inviting plump palate. ‘Cerise noir’ and vanilla. Broad on the palate. Plenty of energy. Very good texture. Soft yet structured with a tannic twist on the finish from the stems which will need a little time to integrate. Very good length Intense flavour."
Chanson is one of the major owners of Clos des Mouches with a vineyard of 4.5 hectares. Ideal location on the hill at the southern end of the vineyards of Beaune on a spur pointing toward Pommard. A plot of 2.5 hectares is planted with Pinot Noir on a limestone subsoil covered with clay.
Our first tasting with Vincent Avenal, new at the helm following the retirement of Gilles de Courcelles. Vincent has spent the last decade with Faiveley and is well placed to continue the dramatic improvements at Chanson that have been introduced since Bollinger became owners in 1999. One of the signatures of modern Chanson is that they harvest late to achieve full ripeness of the stems as they use up to 100% whole bunches in the reds (as they did in 2016), to balance this they use no more than 30% new oak in any cuvee. In 2016 this has delivered deep, powerful wines with generous flavours
