Chianti Classico Contessa di Radda was born in 1978 and takes its name from the Countess Willa of Tuscany, mother of the famous Marquis Ugo of Tuscany, mentioned by Dante Alighieri himself in the Divine Comedy as the “Great Baron”. In 978, was the founder of the oldest Benedictine monastery in Florence, the Abbey of Santa Maria, better known as Badia Fiorentina, in the same year the Countess on Tuscany donated to the Badia many of her family’ territories (Radda, Brolio, Radda, Vicchio, Tignano) and others in Barberino and San Gimignano.
It is 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino grapes, carefully picked and selected by hand. After the classic red vinification processes, the wine ages for 16 months in tonneaux oak barrels and for another 2 months in the bottle before being put on the market.
