2018 Chateau Teyssier, Pezat Reserve, Bordeaux Superieur

Tasting Notes

"90 points The Wine Cellar Insider
Soft, polished and fruity, the round textured, medium-bodied wine is forward in style, so you get to enjoy all its up-front, glossy, juicy, sweet, red fruits and licorice from the get go. A simple pop and pour is all that’s needed here
"

Vineyard Information

Pezat is a seriously enjoyable claret that throws shade on much grander estates in the region, which is not surprising as this is the product of one of Bordeaux's most innovative and successful winemakers, famous for producing extraordinary 100-point wines, Jonathan Malthus, and is made at the Ch Teyssier winery in St Emilion.

"Bang for the buck, wines from the Bordeaux appellation - Superieur or not - don't get the kind of love and attention that we give this wine"

His winemaking career began in 1994, when he purchased Château Teyssier, a fine vineyard in Saint Emilion. As an early and influential figure in the garagiste movement, Jonathan Maltus introduced Le Dôme in 1996, a superb wine predominantly made from Cabernet Franc.

“The idea for Pezat came from our belief that we could create an excellent wine, rather than a boring one, from vineyards located near the Saint-Émilion Appellation. To achieve this, we applied the traditional Saint-Émilion techniques both in the vineyard and in winemaking. The wine is produced to high standards, using the same equipment and methods employed at Château Teyssier”.

His wines always bear the Maltus stamp: his trademark “cashmere” tannins wrapped around a core rich, succulent fruit.
