"The Domaine Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) Pauillac Reserve Spéciale is made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes collected from the younger vines at Château Duhart Milon and Chateau Lafite Rothschild itself and is widely considered to be the 'unofficial' third wine of Château Lafite. Displaying aromas of cool blackberry coulis, warm slate, fresh tobacco, cedar, violets and graphite, the palate is compact and concentrated with fine tannins. Very much 'Lafite' in style this accessible Pauillac will drink well from a young age and offers charm and character after an hour in a decanter."
This is the "unofficial 3rd Growth" from Ch Lafite-Rothschild. We are able to secure a limited quantity each year and as you can imagine it is consistently high quality.
Made under the supervision of oenologist, Diane Flamand, with the same care and attention to detail as is applied to the Grands Vins, Reserve Speciale is produced from young vines at DBR (Lafite)’s own vineyards at Ch Lafite, Duhart Milon and neighbouring vineyards. Chateau Lafite class "young vines" as any vines under 15 years - This is an accessible style of Pauillac that drinks well from a young age, and offers charm and character after an hour in a decanter.
