"Fresh, bright and textured, this red is pure wild red fruit flavours, with a hint of herbs, precise with gentle soft tannins. Serious in structure and flavours, this is great value for money
Perfect with spicy sausage or cured meats."
Quinta do Vesuvio’s history dates back to 1827 when the original house, chapel and winery were built. The first ever Single Estate Douro wine was bottle here.
Vesúvio was in the ownership of the Ferreira family until the 1980s, whendue to Portugal’s Napoleonic code of inheritance—there were so many individual shareholders that the property had become unmanageable and was in decline.
Comboio is the baby of the Vesuvio Range, full of flavour but no oak influence.
In 1989, the estate was purchased by the Symington family and over the last three decades, they have restored the estate’s reputation as the premium Quinta in the Douro. Their Ports are exclusively made in the time-honoured method of foot-treading. In 2007 the family decided to start producing Douro DOC wines as well as Port.
Just 45km from the Spanish border. The climate here is extreme, with hot summers and limited rainfall. Yields from the vines are therefore small compared to other wine producing regions but they produce wines of great intensity and incomparable quality.
