This is also slightly reduced and it's enough to render the nose difficult to assess. The medium-bodied flavors are both more powerful and concentrated though at the expense of less refinement and minerality on the driving and impressively persistent finish. This will need to add depth to merit the upper end of my predicted range but the underlying material appears to be present so that this can eventually happen. Patience required. Louis Boillot's views are consistent with those of his wife Ghislaine Barthod (see herein) and those comments can be read there. I would add only that Boillot noted that "my vines in Gevrey saved me because I had at least some yield because in Volnay and Pommard I had very little. I started picking in Les Angles on the 22nd of September but then more broadly on the 24th. Happily the fruit was exceptionally clean so very little sorting was necessary and it was also pretty ripe as well as potential alcohols that ranged between 12.5 to 13.5%. As to the wines, they have excellent concentration and are supported by silky tannins. In fact, some 2016s could ultimately prove to be better than their 2015 counterparts." As the scores and commentaries confirm, Boillot did fabulously well in 2016, indeed I would go so far as to say that they are among the best wines that I have ever seen from him.
