"Full bodied and intensely rich wine which exhibits aromas of violets and small red fruits. Full in the mouth with a spicy character which leads to a powerful finish. Given a couple of years of bottle aging this wine will develop aromas of liquorice, woodland and pepper."
Eclipsed to some extent by the wines from its more illustrious neighbours, Gigondas and Châteauneuf, Vacqueyras offers exceptional value and deserves to be much better known.
Made by the cooperative of Serignan, this Vacqueyras is a great example of the Rhône valley, situated to the east of Chateauneuf du Pape, from vineyards around the town of Sarians in the southern part of the Vacqueyras appellation, Domaine Grandy is a wine of bold and startling intensity. Almost damson in colour, the nose if full of rich deep berries. Aromas of herbs and violets and rich, ripe fruit and loganberry on the palate, with spice and aniseed on the finish. Definitely a crowd-pleaser and excellent value for money compared to its bigger sister, Chateauneuf. Perfect with roasted meat.
