2023 Aldwick Mary's Rose, Somerset

Tasting Notes

"A blend of Pinot Noir, Regent and Solaris which have been handpicked and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Packed with ripe summer fruits including strawberry, raspberry and peach. This rosé masterfully balances fresh acidity with smooth creaminess. To be enjoyed outside on a bright summer’s day, or anywhere else for that matter!"

Vineyard Information

Aldwick Court is a working farm, an events venue and a vineyard owned by Sandy Luck with longtime friend and Vineyard Manager Elizabeth Laver. Susan visited here once before some eight years ago just after the first vines had been planted and the event space just being built. It was all a bit of an experiment then, or to be more accurate a 'vision'. Well the vision has come to fruition and the development since has been impressive. On this most recent visit Susan explored a field of beautifully tended vines planted in 2010 and saw the prettily decorated room overlooking the vineyard all set up for a wedding later that day (the bride and groom have their photos taken amongst the vines!). There's a tasting room and shop now too. Best of all the wines are very pretty.

The winemaker is Steve Brooksbank at Bagborough near Shepton Mallet whose calm pragmatism and passion shows through in the clear pure flavours of the wines. We all hear of English wines being grown on chalk in Sussex but that's not the whole story. Here the soils are more clay-based, which can be a challenge, but the medals that the wines have been awarded are testament to their success and the attention to detail that is lavished on the vineyards.
