2011 Malbec, Luján de Cuyo, “Cobos”, Marchiori Vineyard, Viña Cobos

Tasting Notes

"James Suckling's Wine of the Year 2014; 100/100
"The nose is phenomenal in this wine. It makes my head spin with so much beautiful perfumes of violets, lavender, sandalwood, mineral, dried fruits, figs. Full body, with phenomenal depth of fruit that gives layers of structure and richness. I am amazed. This is a wine to try in 2020 but so impressive now. This is the Harlan of Argentina but from Malbec instead of Cabernet Sauvignon. 500 cases made. This is a good as it gets for Malbec." James Suckling

Robert Parker Wine Advocate 98/100
“A profound saturated inky bluish black appearance with aromas of plum, bleuberry and walnut. There is a remarkable structure to the wine which is at the same time voluptuous and textural. The dark flavours of black fruits, cloves and coffee persist right to the end and the fine, ripe tannins integrate beautifully. A stunning wine”

Vineyard Information

The wines of Viña Cobos are the result of a shared dream inspired by the passion of an American winemaker Paul Hobbs and two partners from a wine-producing culture deeply rooted in European traditions Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud. Their founding aspiration: to produce a Malbec of power and elegance unequalled anywhere in the world. The inaugural 1999 vintage of Cobos Malbec received the highest score upon release for any Argentine wine

Cobos Malbec represents "true north" for Viña Cobos; it is the founding inspiration for the Argentinean portfolio. It is produced only in exceptional vintages from the oldest vines (60 to 80 years) in the Marchiori Vineyard. It exhibits levels of concentration and power rarely achieved in Argentina – or in other top winegrowing regions of the world – for that matter.
