2021 Ch Bonalgue, Pomerol

In Bond per 12x75cl - En Primeur

Tasting Notes

"Aidan Bell
Very ripe opulent fruit, on an open accessible style that will drink well without having to be too patient, a thoroughly enjoyable chocolatey Pomerol matured in 40% new oak.

Georgina Hindle, Decanter 91/100
Dark and heady on the nose, blackcurrant, plum and black cherry. Succulent and so joyful on the first impact. This has lovely plush yet chalky red fruits and a liveliness that is quite appealing - excellently judged acidity. It then settles to reveal graphite and crushed stone minerality and pencil lead elements. Feels elegant and refined through, they really haven't tried to push this too hard just delivering an easy to enjoy glass of wine but still with backbone and an underpinning of freshness. This also doesn't drop in the mid palate. Good persistency and charm. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2040.

Vineyard Information

'This over-achieving estate is one of the most consistent performers in Pomerol. Always a well-made, fleshy, succulent, hedonistic wine' Robert Parker

Owned by the Bourotte family since 1926 and popular since Napoleonic times, Chateau Bonalgue is a 9.5 ha property on gravel and sand soils in Pomerol, planted with 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Following manual harvest the wines are fermented in temperature controlled vats prior to an 18 month elevage in barrel of which 50% are new each year.
