"This Port, from a cracking year, underwent foot-treading in a lagare and has flavours of ripe plums, stewed blackberries and a hint of sweet tobacco. DBM Christmas favourite!"
In 1958 Quinta do Noval was the first house to launch a 'Late Bottled Vintage' Port, with its 1954 LBV. This implied the creation of a whole new category of Port wine which was at the heart of discussions in the region for many years. Always a pioneer, Quinta do Noval continues to show the way today with its exclusive unfiltered Single Quinta LBV, made entirely from noble grapes from the Quinta, foot trodden in lagares, as for their Vintage Ports and unfiltered. Its main difference is that it is aged for four, sometimes five years in wooden vats instead of the two years typical of Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, with fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle. In essence Noval's 'Baby Vintage'.
