"Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 90-92/100
Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, espresso, licorice and cloves all open in the 2020 Monregard La Croix. Rich and layered to the core, it is decidedly flamboyant in bearing. I imagine the 2020 will offer considerable pleasure upon release. Drink 2025-2035
Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Advocate 90-92/100
The 2020 Monregard la Croix has a deep purple-black color and notes of stewed black plums, blackberry preserves and dark chocolate with hints of aniseed, Sichuan pepper and fertile loam. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is coated with juicy black fruits and a lovely plush texture, punctuated by a lively backbone, finishing long and peppery."
Created in the 1920's by Jean-Baptiste Bourotte's grandfather, Monregard La Croix is a Pomerol on sandy clay soils with some gravel on the surface close to the Border of St Emilion. The old sands here produce a particularly seductive style of Merlot that matures early and gives elegant relatively gentle tannin's making the wine approachable from an early age.
A 1.30 hectare plot of 100% Merlot producing approximately 500 cases each year from 40 year old vines. Matured for 8 months in French oak barrels of which 30% are new and 70% 2nd year.
