Vineyard Information

Vins Julien Schaal is a young forward looking company, owned and run by the very enthusiastic Julien Schaal. His portfolio encompasses his native Alsace, France and his second love - South Africa. In 2008 he won the Prestige Figaro - Coup de Coeur award for Flying French winemakers.

Having no family connections in winemaking Julien gained a High Degree in Viticulture and Winemaking and Wine Marketing, during his studies he worked in France, South Africa and Lebanon. He made his first vintage in 1999 and bought his first piece of land in 2006

Rosacker is among the most celebrated of Alsace's Grands Crus vineyards, with descriptions of its wines dating back to 1483. It owes its name to the wild roses, which grow in abundance around the edge of the vineyard. The limestone soils here produce Rieslings that are bone-dry yet which have a rare richness and mouth-filling texture. With great complexity and balance this Organic wine will easily age for two decades.
