2016 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Sesti - Castello di Argiano

En Primeur - In Bond per 6x75cl

Tasting Notes

"Eric Guido 94/100
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Sesti pulls you close to the glass, with a display of woodland herbs and strawberries backed by hints of cedar and stone dust. It’s silky and pliant, complemented by bright red fruits and cooling acidity, as inner violet and lavender tones add further depth. Energy remains high through the juicy finale, even as round tannins slowly dry out the expression. This is very nicely balanced and so giving already that it will be hard to keep our hands off long enough to watch it fully mature. Drink 2023 - 2032 Vinous.com

Monica Larner 94/100
From the Castello di Argiano, the Sesti 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a soft and nicely textured disposition. This wine has a lovely way about it, not showing too much power or tannins that are too firm. You smell the dark ripeness of the fruit and some of the spice that comes from slow aging in large oak casks. Balanced acidity and tart fruit flavors appear on the close. Sesti has produced exactly 17,646 bottles to be released in February of next year. Drink Date 2023 - 2038 Reviewed Nov 2020

Vineyard Information

What started as neighbourly help assisting in the nearby vineyards and wineries soon led Giuseppe Sesti to discovering his own passion and talent for winemaking, planting his own vines at Castello di Argiano in 1991.

The progress he has made in such a short time is staggering, and the Sesti wines are now widely acknowledged to be quite simply some of the finest that Montalcino has to offer. Having studied astronomy, it is not surprising that many of his winemaking processes follow the lunar cycle. Expertly assisted by his daughter Elisa, Giugi has succeeded in establishing an extremely impressive international reputation in the world of wine.

Vintage Description

Eric Guido, Vinous.com
Warm but never hot, 2016 is often described as having very even temperatures and no dramatic swings, other than the strong diurnal shifts between day and night, which helped in the healthy maturation of fruit. The autumn months and into harvest continued this theme, with temperate and dry conditions, save for a large rainstorm in the middle of September. Producers in warmer locales picked just prior to these rains, while others were able to comfortably wait for dry conditions to return. There is still remarkable value to be found in Brunello; and with a vintage like 2016 in front of us, consumers are in for a real treat. Nov 2020
