2018 Mercurey Blanc 'Clos Rochette', Domaine Faiveley

Tasting Notes

Green gold colour with lovely new oak on the nose. The fruit has good intensity and quite a bit of structure, this will need 12 months bottle age for the flesh to fill in but the succulence of the finish is really impressive and offers a very promising future.

Julia Harding MW (Jancis Robinson) 16/20
“Barrel sample - A little more savoury on the nose than the Rully Les Villeranges, a little less immediately fruity. Creamy texture and crisp acidity” Tasted Nov 2019

Property Information

Domaine Faiveley traces its history back to 1823 and through seven generations they have built up an exceptional vineyard portfolio including 50 hectares in Côte de Nuits, 15 in Côte de Beaune and 75 in Côte Chalonnaise. Indeed the latest addition of 20 ha in Gevrey Chambertin was added as recently as October 2013. These are denoted as ‘Domaine Faiveley’ while wines from purchased fruit are ‘Maison Faiveley’.

This parcel neighbours La Framboisière. The soils in Clos Rochette are very compact, hard to plough and scattered with small rocks that give this climat its name. This parcel has been one of the Domaine's Monopoles since 1933.
