2018 Sauvignon de Touraine, Domaine des Petits Faiteaux

Tasting Notes

"A charming, dry Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine, crisp with lively herbaceous and citrus flavours, a good weight on the palate and a clean, fresh finish with a hint of minerality"

Vineyard Information

The vineyard is located in the east side of la Vallée de la Loire, between Amboise and Chéverny, in the heart of the Appellation of Touraine. Benefitting from a warm climate during the summer months, this microclimate helps the grapes to achieve full their ripening potential. The soil is predominantly sand and silex, the latter imparts the characteristic flinty notes of the region. The fruit is machine harvested at optimal maturity to retain freshness.

The grapes are crushed and undergo a 36 hour débourbage or settling, before being traditionally vinified at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation took place with wild yeasts. The wine is aged on its fine lees for four months imparting texture and complexity before being bottled. This cuvée is made in an unoaked style to express the purity of fruit and the nuances of the terroir.

Vintage Description

2018 was an excellent vintage in the Loire in terms of quality and yield and is considered by many in the region to be an historic vintage. Spring weather was very favourable, promoting early flowering and excellent fruit set. Unhindered by hail or frost, the vines continued to develop normally. High temperatures throughout the summer ensured accelerated the ripening. Harvest took place in excellent conditions with fruit having reached full maturity
