"Beautiful deep purple colour. The nose is powerful, with notes of black fruit like blackberries and peppery spices. The palate is very elegant, with a nice tension, and lets off aromas of black olives and licorice."
The Perrin family, one of the great winemaking families of France, and regularly offer the best portfolio of wines in the Southern Rhône, headed by their Châteauneuf du Pape, Château de Beaucastel.
Produced by the Beaucastel team on a very clayey 8 hectare vineyard with stones from the Ouvèze river. Located on the Commune of Sarrians, south of the Dentelles de Montmirail, there are old vines here (average 50 years), with Grenache as the dominant component giving a lovely fleshy wine. It typically has aromas of chocolate, cherry and fig that in turn match beautifully with the Syrah that offers violet, spice and liquorice. The normal blend is 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah.
The 2017 vintage will be remembered as the year of all records: the driest year in 30 years, non-interventionist vineyard work, optimal harvest conditions, a very small yield due to climatic hazards, and wines with very rich potential. Grenache : 75% Syrah : 25%
