2009 Ch Duhart-Milon, 4ème Cru Classé, Pauillac 6x75cl

Tasting Notes

"Very deep colour. Lovely flavour. Quite dry with fresh acidity. Rounded on the palate. Has extra dimension, really fat and silky smooth with blueberry milk chocolate. Warm velvet finish and structure behind. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot. A great wine from the team at Lafite Rothschild. (AB/SM Apr 2010)
Jancis Robinson MW : 17.5

97 Points, Robert Parker: "A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, it displays an inky/blue/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice, lead pencil, cedar and subtle barrique smells. Viscous and full-bodied, it is the most concentrated and broadest example of this cuvee I have tasted in over three decades. It will be ready to drink in 5-7 years and should last for three decades or more. Consumers looking to maximize value should be checking out Duhart Milon, as this may be the single smartest purchase in this great and historic vintage!

Since few consumers other than Chinese billionaires can afford wines such as Lafite Rothschild, perhaps it is time for readers to take a look at Duhart Milon, which sells for less than Lafite’s second wine. The Rothschilds have invested heavily in resurrecting this property to near super-star status, and the 2009 appears to be the finest Duhart I have ever tasted."

Vineyard Information

Château Duhart-Milon’s vineyard consists mainly of a single block of vines on the west side of Château Lafite Rothschild, on the Milon hillside, which runs along the Carruades plateau. The property has 76 hectares of vine. The soil is fine gravel mixed with aeolian sand on tertiary limestone subsoil. The 76 hectares of vines consist of Cabernet Sauvignon (67%) and Merlot (33%). The average age of the vines is 30 years.

The property has been managed since 1962 by a single team that, due to the proximity of the two properties, oversees both Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon. Eric Kohler, Technical Director of the Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Duhart-Milon, is assisted by Oenologist and Winemaker Christophe Congé, and Vineyard Manager Louis Caillard. Both Châteaux use the same traditional techniques based on strict control of yields, harvesting by hand, and numerous manual tasks throughout the year.
