"Lovely deep colour. Aromas of fresh, ripe raspberries, cherries, and plums on the nose, along with notes of cocoa, peppermint, black olive, white pepper and prune. On the palate, an appealingly ripe, supple style is backed by ripe, smooth tannins. Delicious"
Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Lafite took over the Los Vascos estate (Los Vascos meaning The Basques, in honour of its Basque origins) in 1988. They chose Los Vascos, because of its location near the ocean and its exceptional soil. Along with ideal weather conditions, Los Vascos benefits from intense exposure to the sun, adequate water sources, semi-arid soils and little risk of frost. At an average of 130m above sea level and at just 40 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, the microclimate of Viña Los Vascos has everything to produce fine wines.
The 600ha vineyard is planted with healthy pre-phylloxera Bordeaux rootstock and is under direct technical supervision of the Domaines.
James Suckling - 92 points: More fruit and intensity than the 2014. Medium to full body, chocolate, hazelnut and berry character. Delicious complexity and fruit.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - 90 points:The super classical and serious 2015 Grande Reserve was a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Carmenere that felt very integrated and harmonious, with aromas of wild berries, herbs, fine spices and smoke. Much better than previous years. October 2018
