2004 Quinta do Noval Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port

Packed in wooden singles

Tasting Notes

"93 Points, Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted at the Quinta do Noval LBV vertical. The most recent release of Noval’s LBV, the 2004 has a primal bouquet with subtle aromas of blackberry, wild hedgerow, heather and a touch of liquorice. With further aeration it develops an engaging floral notes: more rose petal than violet. The palate is very well balanced with a seductive sense of purity with a very harmonious, dare I say, almost understated finish with touches of white pepper, dark cherry and tobacco. There is something austere that reminds me of a Claret, that dryness enhancing freshness and delineation. Wonderful. Drink 2013-2025+ Tasted October 2010.""

Vineyard Information

In 1958 Quinta do Noval was the first house to launch a 'Late Bottled Vintage' Port, with its 1954 LBV. This implied the creation of a whole new category of Port wine which was at the heart of discussions in the region for many years. Always a pioneer, Quinta do Noval continues to show the way today with its exclusive unfiltered Single Quinta LBV, made entirely from noble grapes from the Quinta, foot trodden in lagares, as for their Vintage Ports and unfiltered. Its main difference is that it is aged for four, sometimes five years in wooden vats instead of the two years typical of Vintage Ports. Definitely an LBV with a difference, with fine structured tannins, great freshness and purity of fruit. It is delicious to drink today, but will age beautifully in its bottle. In essence Noval's 'Baby Vintage'.
