2009 Vacqueyras Les Christins, Famille Perrin

Tasting Notes

"A blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah the 2009 Christins has an intensely rich nose of kirsch liqueur, liquorice, garrigue, pepper and spice with brooding dark fruits on the palate and firm rounded tannins - real depth and power but not overdone. Should be delicious young but will equally drink well for 7-8 years.

90-92 Points, Robert Parker: "Speaking of contrasts, the exuberance of the Grenache grape is well-displayed in the Perrin et Fils 2009 Vacqueyras Cristins. A blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, it possesses abundant amounts of kirsch liqueur, licorice, lavender, garrigue, pepper and spice as well as full body and excellent richness. This great value should drink nicely for 7-8 years. "

Vineyard Information

The Perrin family, one of the great winemaking families of France, and regularly offer the best portfolio of wines in the Southern Rhône, headed by their Châteauneuf du Pape, Château de Beaucastel.

Produced by the Beaucastel team on a very clayey 8 hectare vineyard with stones from the Ouvèze river. Located on the Commune of Sarrians, south of the Dentelles de Montmirail, there are old vines here (average 50 years), with Grenache as the dominant component giving a lovely fleshy wine. It typically has aromas of chocolate, cherry and fig that in turn match beautifully with the Syrah that offers violet, spice and liquorice. The normal blend is 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah.
