2012 Fonseca Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port
Fonseca traces its origins to 1815. Fonseca Guimaraens was then founded in 1822 when Manuel Pedro Guimaraens acquired the majority share of the Fonseca & Monteiro company holdings. Not long after this purchase, Guimaraens, a supporter of the liberal cause in the 'War of the Two Brothers' was forced to flee Portugal hidden in an empty port wine cask. He settled in England, where his company remained based until 1927, when the headquarters of the firm returned to Portugal. In 1948, incidentally a fine vintage year, the aftermath of World War II led to a consolidation of ownership with Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman, who are still their trusted guardian.
