2010 T.H. Syrah, Viña Undurraga, Limari Valley, Chile

Tasting Notes

"Gold List, Sommelier World Wine Awards 2013: "The Terroir Hunter was one of two polished Syrahs to bag the coveted steak Food Match, and with its smoky, tarry persona, that was perhaps not that surprising. A complex bouquet of violets, roses, red berries and hints of mint, lead through to a spicy palate with good minerality, medium tannins and juicy red fruit. 'Very Limarí,' said Martin Lam of Ransome's Dock.""

Vineyard Information

Viña Undurraga was established in 1885 by Francisco Undurraga Vicuña, who that year acquired a property called “The Houses of San Vicente”, located in Talagante, 34 kms. from Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Here, he planted vineyards, with vines that he selected and brought personally from the regions of the Rhine in Germany and from Bordeaux, in France. The wines bottled in Santa Ana have since 1885 had great acceptance, both in Chile and worldwide, indeed Undurraga was one of the first Chilean wineries to export abroad. As of 2006 Undurraga held 900 hectares in Maipo valley and in Colchagua, with plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Carmenère, Chardonnay and Sémillon.

Vintage Description

Undurraga were voted Producer Of The Year for 2013 at the Sommelier Wine Awards: "Undurraga blew away the competition. Ten medals, half gold is breathtaking, but when you add a Critics Choice, a Food Match and two By The Glass awards, including one Perfect Pub Quartet, its easy to run out of superlatives."
