"A rich, expressive nose of complex aromatics including black cherry, black currant, Herbs de Provence and peppery spice leads to a full palate with wave after wave of deliciously fresh berried fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and silky tannins, building beautifully to a velvety finish. This offers excellent quality for the price and is a fantastic wine to have in the cellar for drinking now and over the next 2-3 years. (AI)"
André Brunel is famous for his Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Cailloux, one of the appellation's leading wines and for his winemaking expertise. His family own estates on both sides of the Rhone and this simple Cotes du Rhone benefits from Brunel's attention to detail at a snip of the price. As Robert Parker writes,“André Brunel produces powerful yet rich, elegant, concentrated wines that have gone from strength to strength since the late eighties…he is one of the bright shining lights of Châteauneuf-du-Pape”
For this cuvée the vines are grown in two plots located to the east and west of the Rhône (hence the name) and impart the complexity of the different Rhône terroirs. The complementary qualities from these two terroirs allow the 35 year old Grenache vines to reveal all their potential: elegance and finesse come from the small yields of 35 hectolitres per hectare and clay-limestone subsoil of the Saint Geniès de Comolas terroir in the Gard, while the round pebbles and clay subsoil of the Travaillan in the Vaucluse impart structure and power to the blend.
