"Excellent nose of smoky deep black fruits and cassis – very well defined, showing good concentration and that lovely whiff of quality oak; the palate offers finely textured red currant and cassis fruit, lovely balance, perfect weight and a very delicious mocha note to the finish. Very smooth and polished, the hallmark of great quality fruit and a talented winemaker. Great length leading to a spicy finish. Drink now to 2016.” (AI)"
Bodegas Comenge was established in 1999 - the winery sits on a hillside just outside of the village of Curiel de Duero, in Ribera del Duero. From the off, Alvaro Comenge wanted to tread his own path, fully committed to increasing quality above all else. The vines are planted to a much greater density than is usual in Ribera del Duero, leading to lower yields and greater concentration in the grapes, and utilise high trellising to ensure optimum ripeness and increased airflow producing healthy grapes free from disease. Wild yeasts isolated from the Ribera vineyards are utilised in the fermentation to give greater complexity and a definite regionality in the finished wines.
The ‘Biberius’ Ribera del Duero, 100% Tempranillo, spends 3-4 months in French oak and it offers that rare thing in Ribera del Duero – extraordinary value for money
