"A whiff of chocolate and classy mocha oak on the nose with some nice spicy complexity alongside evolving cassis fruits. Very inviting; smooth and rounded palate, lovely rich flavour. Some grippy tannins are still present also. Decant for 1-2 hours to help these soften and show the wine at its best."
Château Fourcas Hosten has had a solid reputation for quality for nearly two centuries. A highly unusual terroir is responsible for the wine's subtle balance. Located in the heart of the village of Listrac, the estate's 18th Century manor house overlooks lovely 3-hectare English-style grounds as well as Merlot vines on Listrac's clay-limestone plain. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grow further north, on the gravelly Plateau de Fourcas, whose soil is ideally suited to these varieties. The new owners, the Momméja brothers (Renaud and Laurent), are committed to upholding the estate's longstanding reputation. They have introduced state-of-the-art techniques and equipment, but in keeping with time-honoured Médoc traditions, to bring out Fourcas Hosten's intrinsic character and natural elegance.
